Vijayadashami, on Ashwayuja Shukla Dashami, celebrates the victory of dharma: Devi over Mahishasura, Rama over Ravana. It is the day of Shami puja, new beginnings, and Aksharabhyasam for children starting their letters.

A day of victory is a day of protection. Vijayadashami at Kāmya honours the caretakers and the rescued: every cow in the herd is a small victory of dharma over neglect.
